Born at Midnight
By: C.C. Hunter
My favorite book at the moment is Born at Midnight. I loved the whole series so far, but the first book in the Shadow Falls series is by far my favorite. I can't exactly say what makes it my favorite...it just is. In this book, Kylie is sent away to a camp, the Shadow Falls camp. It was recomended by her therapist. Her parents have just gotten divorced, but neither will tell her why just that 'it's complicated' and that she wouldn't understand. Well, when she gets to Shadow Falls, she finds that it's not a normal camp, it's a camp for monsters! (fae, werewolves, vampires, etc.) On the bus she makes a few friends. But she really takes an interest in Derek, a nice (and cute!) faerie. When she gets to camp, she reunites with a ghost from her past, Lucas. Lucas is a werewolf that used to live next door to her. most of what Kylie remembers about him is that she thinks he killed her old cat, Socks. But as she gets to know him, she comes to know that Lucas's dad ate her cat and had only been trying to protect her from having it happen again. Lucas even buys her a new cat that looks just like Socks, so she names it Socks Jr. Kylie falls for Derek and Lucas, but she can't decide between them. The worst part is that when she's with one, she's normally comparing him to the other. When you take this boy drama, and add friend troulble, an ex-boyfriend, a cheating (kind-of) dad going out with his assistant, being a ghost whisperer, and trying to keep Shadow Falls from being shut down, Kylie's life becomes a complete and utter mess! But that's what makes this wonderful book so enjoyable!

Gone
By: Michael Grant
Most of us have read Gone, and I think I speak for all of us when I say that we love it. It is a series, but I am the only one who has read all five of them. The order is Gone, Hunger, Lies, Plague, then Fear. The sixth book, Light, comes out in April. I am feeling a mixture of excitement and sorrow that another book is coming out, but it is closing the series. It has been almost two years since I read Gone, so I don't remember most of it. I will just give you an overview of this (amazing) series. One fateful day, the power plant experiences a meltdown and everyone in town is going to die if the workers can't get this under control. Then, a severly autistic Little Pete freaks out and uses some inner power he had recieved from the radiation under the ground in the sleepy, California city. That was a really bad way of putting it, so I'm going to clarify. Basically, an asteroid came from outer space that was filled with Uranium or some other type of radioactive material. The radiation from this substance caused mutations in the animals in the town and the kids fourteen and under. Some kids became more powerful than others, and some kids didn't get any powers. Anyway, Little Pete, otherwise known as LP, is the most powerful muation and pretty much in control of the town. During the meltdown, LP does something, no one is sure what, that causes an impenetrable sphere to form around the town. The sphere is 20 miles wide in any given direction. There is an even weirder part to this than just the fact that it is an impenetrable sphere surronding the city. Alll adults and people ages 15 and over have all disappeared. Poof. Gone. The children from two different sides of town and two different schools have to fight each other for control. There is a prep school for kids who are basically unwanted by rich parents, and there are the public school kids where all but two of the main characters come from. What happens when they find their powers? When they ther reunite seperated twins? When two celeberties' kids fly to the mainland in a poorly steered helicopter after living on an island off of the coast for six months after the poof? When someone has to take charge? When they need to get kids to work? When savages start to eat cats, dogs, and other children because of hunger? When they realize there is an unseen force that they need to fight? When they realize the only person who stood a chance against that evil force is dead? Read this AH-MAZE-ING series to answer these questions. Another goos book by Michael Grant - though I'm the only one who has read it, and I'm not even done yet - is called BZRK. I may not be done it yet, but I am already in love with it and plan to finish it over break. I might put it up here after I'm done.
